This course explores possible reasons why children bite, how to adapt your practice to limit incidents of biting and how to deal with incidents professionally when they do happen. Practical advice and helpful tips for supporting the biting/bitten child and their families will help increase practitioner understanding and confidence. This course carries 3 CPD hours.
Effective Teaching & Learning
This course investigates the differences between direct, indirect and pedagogical approaches to effective teaching and how to use this knowledge to understand and adapt your own teaching style to improve outcomes for children. The importance of effective observation, planning and assessment are underpinned by good practice exemplars and templates. This course carries 8 CPD hours .
Equality & Diversity
E&D
This course looks at equality and diversity and what that means in practice for early years practitioners. It breaks down legal context and gives practical advice and support for practitioners and settings. This course carries 2 CPD hours
Supporting Positive Behaviour
This course provides practitioners with an underpinning knowledge of why children behave in certain ways both positively and negatively. The course gives ideas for auditing and adapting your practice to make the most of the environment in supporting positive behaviour both for individual children and groups. This course carries 4 CPD hours.
Improving Literacy in the Early Years
This course examines the links between literacy and outcomes in early years settings. It encourages practitioners to explore the 4 key aspects of literacy and gives best practice advice and guidance for improving literacy attainment in the early years. This course carries 6 CPD hours.
Safeguarding
This course will enable practitioners to have a deep understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse. It explains the differences in child protection and safeguarding and makes sense of the legislation and legal duty of those in early years. Reporting procedures, whistle blowing duties and “The Prevent Duty” responsibilities under the counter terrorism act are made clear. This course carries 7 CPD hours.
Data Protection
This course simplifies the Data Protection Act 1998, looks at the 7 golden rules of information sharing and gives practical support for practitioners to fulfil their duties. This course carries 1 hour CPD.
Food Safety
This equivalent level 2 course in food safety covers everything an early years practitioner or cook will need to know to safely prepare food. The course will specifically look at food poisoning, bacteriology, prevention and contamination, temperature control, personal hygiene, premises and pest control, cleaning and disinfection and legal expectations. This course carries 6 CPD hours.
Autism Awareness
This course gives practitioners an understanding of Autistic Spectrum Disorders/Conditions. The session will help practitioners to feel confident in spotting potential signs of the condition and offer advice and guidance when creating a suitable and challenging environment. This course carries 3 CPD hours.
Special Educational Needs & Development (SEND)
This course explores the Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Code of Practice (CoP) in relation to early years settings. It gives practical guidance and support for designated special educational needs and disabilities coordinators and those working with children with a diagnosed or suspected SEND. This course carries 3 CPD hours.
Health & Safety
Food Safety Level 2
This one day Qualsafe certified course matches the syllabus used by both the CIEH and RSPH. Candidates will learn :
- Food Poisoning –Why food safety is important in the catering sector
- Bacteriology –Types of bacteria and factors that can affect its multiplication
- Prevention of Contamination –Controlling measures that can be put into place to prevent the spread of bacteria
- Temperature Control –How to measure food temperatures and how temperature control for certain food types will reduce the multiplication of bacteria
- Personal Hygiene –How food handlers must maintain high levels of personal hygiene
- Premises & Pest Control –The need to keep food premises maintained and in good condition and the consequences for the food business if infestation occurs
- Cleaning & Disinfection –Methods to keep premises and equipment in good order
- The Law –The legal obligations of food handlers
First Aid Courses
Paediatric First Aid
This two day qualification is based on the Ofsted guidelines for people who work with, or look after children to enable them to have a sound knowledge of how to deal with emergency first aid situations. The course will allow practitioners to be confident in the following:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Be able to assess an incident
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
- Manage a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
- Manage a casualty who is in shock
- Understand how to manage a casualty with a minor injury
- Be able to conduct a secondary survey
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injury
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with a suspected chest injury
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
- Manage a casualty who is in shock
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
- Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant and a child with chronic medical conditions or sudden illness
First Aid at Work
This three day course gives the maximum level of knowledge deemed necessary by the HSE and covers the following:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Be able to assess an incident
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking

This one day course meets the current HSE requirements for first aid. The course will allow delegates to meet with confidence the following criteria:
